The Toad you can play as is "Yellow Toad" from the original games, and while Blue Toad appears to have been removed and replaced with Toadette, you can actually play Blue Toad as a palette-swap of Yellow Toad by pressing the "ZL" button on the character select screen when Yellow Toad is chosen.
